More than one way
to play a card.
The first letter is the connection. The games themselves can feel very different.
Standard decks, special decks and solo games
If you are choosing a game for a real deck of cards, start with a traditional name such as Mau Mau, Memory, Manni, Mao, Mus or Machiavelli. Check the rules before dealing: the number of players, number of decks and special cards vary. Mus, for example, uses a Spanish deck. A browser edition can also have its own rules, so its help screen is the guide to that particular game.
For solo play, Montana, Monte Carlo and Miss Milligan are different kinds of patience. Montana is about putting rows into order. Monte Carlo is about finding neighboring pairs. Miss Milligan uses two decks and asks you to manage more cards at once. Mountain Solitaire, Maya Pyramid Solitaire and Magic Castle Solitaire are named online editions with their own layouts and goals.
Matching, shedding or taking tricks?
A matching game asks you to find a relationship between cards. Memory hides the faces and tests where you remember seeing them. Monte Carlo leaves the faces visible, but only neighboring equal ranks can be removed. A shedding game such as Mau Mau asks you to empty your hand instead. Trick-taking games such as Manni and Mizerka involve rounds of cards played by different players, with the rules deciding who takes each trick.
What about Magic and Munchkin?
Magic: The Gathering and Munchkin both belong on a list of card games beginning with M. They use their own commercial cards and have their own publishers. We link to their official information rather than offering an unofficial embedded copy. Finding a name on this list does not mean every game is free or playable here.
A few good questions.
What are some card games that start with M?
Memory, Mau Mau, Montana Solitaire, Monte Carlo Solitaire, Miss Milligan, Manni, Mao, Mus, Mizerka and Machiavelli are examples. Commercial card games include Munchkin and Magic: The Gathering. The table above shows their different styles and links to games or rules.
Which M card games can I play alone?
Memory can be played as a solo matching challenge. Montana, Monte Carlo, Miss Milligan, Mountain Solitaire, Maya Pyramid Solitaire and Magic Castle Solitaire are solitaire options. Our Mau Mau edition uses computer opponents.
Are these games free to play?
The eight browser editions listed in the playable collection are free to start. Seven are supplied by third parties and may show advertising. Our single-player Memory edition has no ads. No M Card Games account is required.
Is Mahjong a card game that starts with M?
Traditional Mahjong uses tiles, not playing cards, so it is not included in this card-game list. Mahjong Solitaire is also a tile-matching game. The spelling fits the letter, but the equipment and game type are different.
Is Mao the same game as Mau Mau?
No. They are related through shedding-game ideas, but Mao is known for rules that players discover through play and penalties. Mau Mau usually states its rules before play. Both have many local variations.
Can I play on a phone?
The site and our Memory game support small screens and touch. Third-party game layouts vary; use fullscreen or landscape orientation if a table feels cramped. An external game link is available if a browser blocks an embedded game.
